Lexington Odd Fellows Cemetery: cared for by the people who remember.
I designed and built the Squarespace website for Lexington Odd Fellows Cemetery so families can find a loved one's grave in seconds, honor the veterans and neighbors buried there, and give online to keep 175 years of history cared for.
175 years of history, kept by a handful of volunteers.
The B. S. Tappan Odd Fellows Lodge No. 22 set this ground apart in Lexington, Mississippi in 1851. For more than 150 years the city maintained it. In 2018 that care passed to a small volunteer board, and today the cemetery runs entirely on gifts from families and friends.
Descendants and genealogists needed an easy way to find who rests there, and donors needed to see why their gift matters. The old website couldn't be updated, so the burial records, the stories and the ask to give were all out of reach.
Three changes that keep the story alive.
Make every grave easy to find
A memorial search across 3,629 burial records in Odd Fellows and Beth El, with filters for section, military service and year of death, plus an interactive cemetery plan that maps 2,972 graves.
Honor the people kept here
An Honor Roll of 411 veterans grouped by era, from the Civil War to Vietnam, plus pages for notable people and recent burials and services.
Make giving simple
A two-minute giving form for one-time or recurring gifts and gifts in honor of a veteran, plus a sticky Search, Give and Menu bar on every phone screen.
A records hub the board can run themselves.
LOFC’s records were spread across a spreadsheet, an email list and an old website no one could log into. I built a private records hub where board members sign in with a code sent to their email, no passwords to remember, and manage burial records, families and donors, the giving history and the newsletter list in one place.
The public website reads from the same records. When a volunteer fixes a name or adds a burial, the memorial search, Honor Roll and donor list update on their own. Every edit is logged, and the data is backed up on a schedule.
Today the hub holds 1,297 families and friends, 3,629 grave records and 300 gifts of giving history, with online gifts ready to log themselves through Stripe.
The board’s records hub dashboard, with private details blurred.
